MET OPERA HOUSE NYC
ENCHANTED ISLAND
59 PRODUCTIONS
M-I-E created projection mapping for The Enchanted Island, a brand new opera, which premiered at the Metropolitan Opera House, New York, on New Years Eve 2012. In this extraordinary work, fans of Baroque opera have the lot: the world’s best singers, music of the Baroque masters, and a story drawn from Shakespeare. In The Enchanted Island, the lovers from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream are shipwrecked on his other-worldly island of The Tempest. Inspired by the musical pastiches of the 18th century, the work showcases arias and ensembles by Handel, Vivaldi, Rameau, and others. M-I-E spent a number of weeks working with theatre projection specialists, 59 Productions, generating the content, before fine-tuning the animation in preparation for the opening night on one of the biggest stages in the world.
