To be honest, we think Faithless were fed up with appearing in their videos, so they started looking at animated routes and we were lucky enough to get a shot. They loved our style frames and we were in! There was a fair amount of discussion over the treatment but we agreed on a sexually charged even, dare I say, pornographic journey into Maxi’s fantasies. Not one for the kids!

The idea started taking shape during our research and we ended up with loads of wild sketches. With help from our illustrators, we tidied the style and developed it into colorful manga-like images. The design of the sexual plants was inspired by the animation section from Pink Floyd’s ‘The Wall’, which fitted the brief Faithless gave us, as well as maintaining the abstractness we desired.

PROCESS

Virtually the whole promo was created in 2d, except for a few 3d elements. We filmed the band, roto-scoping Maxi’s movements & lip sync, while heavily treating the footage we used of Sister Bliss in the club scene. We also made the stereo-scopic version of the video which can be viewed below.
